The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Salary Range: $28,194 - $49,340.00 This position is located at Craggy Correctional Center in Buncombe County. This position will be in the mailroom. Positions in this class are characterized by their performance of a variety of administrative, clerical, and office support duties. Positions require knowledge of the office or work unit policies and procedures in order to communicate information involving programs, functions, and services. Duties performed may include preparation of documents and reports, composition of memos and letters, the use of office technology, compiling records, organizing and maintaining files, posting information, greeting, referring, assisting visitors, clients, staff, and others, mail distribution, and photocopying. Positions may serve as an office coordinator for a work unit. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to: Operating office machines and copiers as well as daily computer entry. Carrying out assignments in accordance with an established schedule. Working independently and adhering to state policies/procedures. Delivering and picking up US Mail and courier mail on a regular and scheduled basis. Sorting mail by address and type. Signing for and delivering special types of mail. Distributing mail throughout the facility. Readdressing and rerouting mail as needed. Packing materials for shipping, handling heavy packages and parcel post. Being outside to deliver and retrieve mail in inclement weather conditions. Note to Current State Employees: The salary grade for this position is NC02. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.
