CIRCUIT COURT OF COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS OFFICE OF THE CHIEF JUDGE JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT OFFICE OF INTERPRETER SERVICES (OIS) GRADE: ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT II, GRADE14 SALARY: ENTRY RATE ON TEAMSTERS 700 PAY SCHEDULE, CURRENTLY $ 56,557 UNION: TEAMSTERS LOCAL 700 LOCATION: COURT LOCATIONS AS ASSIGNED Job summary and duties: Answer and direct telephone calls; take and relay messages Process requests for interpreter services Check cases involving persons with Limited English Proficiency (L.E.P.) to ensure the correct date, time, room number, and court location. Assist in scheduling of interpreters for Spanish, Polish, and other languages, including contacting third party vendors and processing advance and same day requests for interpreter services Communicate with judges, court personnel, and interpreters to ensure availability of interpreter services as required Collect data and provide statistics required by the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts. Perform general clerical duties, including filing, typing, and inputting data for reports to the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts and the Chief Judge Perform such other duties as may be directed by supervisory personnel The duties listed are not set forth for the purpose of limiting the assignment of work. Requirements

  • High School graduate or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of court procedures and legal terminology.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Work, Excel program and excellent typing skills (45 wpm).
  • Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to format memoranda and correspondence, etc., and understand legal terminology as it relates to same.
  • Ability to work and interact with legal and non-legal personnel in a highly professional manner
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to multi-task, and ability to maintain composure under pressure
  • Ability to travel to various court locations as required
  • On a continuous basis, sit at a desk for long periods of time in front of a computer screen; Intermittently twist to reach equipment or supplies surrounding desk; Perform simple grasping and fine manipulation; Strength to lift files weighing up to 20 pounds; and Use smart phone, including texting and other functions, telephone, and computer on a daily basis
  • This position requires a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.
