About The Position

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District is accepting applications for the position of Administrative Assistant to the Deputy Chiefs. The application and a resume with three personal and three business references must be submitted online by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. Emails will not be accepted. This is a staff-level administrative position that works directly with the two Deputy Fire Chiefs and the Fire Chief, performing diverse administrative duties and support. Responsibilities include data collection, report preparation, meeting preparation, keeping of official records, office management, meetings, speaking with the public, and answering the telephone. Applicants must be able to perform all essential duties satisfactorily. The requirements are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office. High school diploma or GED required. An Associate's Degree in Secretarial Science or Office Management from a two-year college or technical school is desired. Proven work experience and knowledge can be substituted for a college degree. Administrative experience with either a Fire Protection District or a municipal Fire Department is preferred. The Administrative Assistant position is an on-site full-time salaried non-exempt/at will position working Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Administrative Assistant position offers a starting salary of $66,997 and a benefit package including health, dental, and vision insurance. There is no remote work option. The McHenry Township Fire Protection District is NOT an IMRF employer, nor does the district participate in Social Security. The administrative assistant will have 8% of their salary (paid by the district) deposited into a 401(a) retirement account.
