About The Position

Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) is a community-based not-for-profit community development corporation and settlement house that offers comprehensive housing preservation, early childhood education, urban agriculture, public health, youth and family services, career and education, college success, and community organizing programs. With community residents leading the way, the mission of Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation is to build a strong, sustainable Cypress Hills/East New York, where youth and adults achieve educational and economic success, secure healthy and affordable housing and develop leadership skills to transform their lives and community. CHLDC currently serves 20,000 residents from 20+ different community locations with a dedicated workforce of 150+ full-time and 400+ part-time employees. The organization is at a critical juncture in its development. CHLDC has grown significantly in the last several years. Our organization opened a new community center/service hub two years ago and recently merged with another settlement house in East New York. We are also making unprecedented investments in our staff and back office. Moreover, we are welcoming a new Executive Director upon the retirement of our long-time/founding Executive Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, urban studies, social work, or related field. 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Detailed oriented and extremely well-organized with great time management skills.
  • Strong grammar, editing and writing, presentation and communication skills.
  • Personable, professional, and passionate about the work of the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Have notary license or be willing to obtain
  • Maintain confidentiality and highest ethical standards.
  • Demonstrated commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social justice and social change.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Executive Director in daily administrative tasks, including handling public inquiries and requests for information for the Executive Director, managing executive director’s calendar, record keeping, communications and compliance matters as assigned.
  • Act as liaison between the Executive Director and members of CHLDC’s Board of Directors – maintaining schedules and minutes of all committee and full board meetings, preparing and distributing relevant materials to board members prior to meetings, making reminder calls and sending reminder texts and emails; arranging logistics of meetings and special events such as outreach breakfasts with clergy from the community.
  • Coordinate updates in government contracting portals related to CHLDC’s organizational profile, Board of Directors, and leadership.
  • Represent the Executive Director at community and other public events.
  • Maintain working relationships with offices of local elected officials, community board, public schools and other social service agencies.
  • As requested, schedule and organize meetings, visits and events and maintain the Executive Director’s calendar.
  • Serve on the agency's communications/fun committee focused on bringing staff together from diverse sites and divisions to share information, build morale and develop skills and greater understanding of the organization’s plans and mission.
  • Handle tasks related to the board-directed Cesiah Toro Mullane Scholarship Fund.
  • Organize master files of agency’s legal documents, minutes/board materials, disclosures, legal and other compliance filings, insurance and other files of the Executive Director.
  • Notarize documents for Executive Director, Board Members and Deputy Directors.
  • Support Executive Director, Deputy Director and Division directors with filing public disclosures and contract filing material for organization, board officers and Executive Director.
  • Provide support for staff meetings and management team meetings.
  • Handle, sort, direct administrative office mail.
  • Draft letters, reports and spreadsheets for the Executive Director.
  • Handle credit card, travel arrangements, insurance and ordering as needed.
  • Report to the Executive Director on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrate commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change.
