About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Public Safety Administration and Operations within Business Services this position supports the day-to-day administrative operations of the Public Safety Unit and provides direct administrative support to the Associate Vice President of Public Safety, Executive Director of Public Safety, Chief of Police, Director of Public Safety Administration and Operations and Director of Transportation and Parking Services. This position is a supporting member of the leadership team and is responsible for managing office operations and providing administrative support. In addition, the incumbent in this position will provide key support with scheduling, travel, editorial review, logistics support, personnel actions, and other similar duties. The mission of the Public Safety unit at Cal Poly is to foster a safe environment for students, staff, faculty, and visitors. The Public Safety unit consists of four departments; Cal Poly Police, Emergency Management, Business Services, and Transportation and Parking Services, which work collaboratively to enhance the campus safety and readiness.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply expertise to complex programs and/or administrative specialties, including pertinent laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in and advanced knowledge of the principles, problems, and methods of public and business administration and operational management.
  • Ability to understand problems from a broad, interactive perspective and discern applicable underlying principles to conceive of and develop strategic solutions.
  • Ability to work with representatives from public and private entities and handle potentially sensitive situations.
  • Demonstrated consultative skills in working with internal and external constituent groups.
  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Type 45 wpm.
  • Five years of general office support or technical experience.
  • Training at a vocational school or full-time college education may be substituted for two years of the required experience on the basis of one year of college education for 6 months of experience.
