About The Position

Preceptors are experienced professionals who are knowledgeable and passionate about their specialty and have a desire to teach. A highly qualified preceptor is both confident and competent and provides an environment that fosters independence. Further, the preceptor is a professional role model who actively supports and engages in professional and scholarly activities.

Requirements

  • Physicians: Board certified in the area of instruction with a minimum of one year of experience in the clinical specialty
  • Physician Assistants/Associates: PANCE certification with a minimum of one year of experience in the clinical specialty
  • Licensed in the state in which they practice

Responsibilities

  • Foster a mutually respectful and collaborative learning environment
  • Orient students to clinical setting, including policies and procedures
  • Provide supervision and mentoring to students throughout the clinical rotation
  • Frequent communication with students to facilitate learning
  • Encourage students to take advantage of available facility resources
  • Guide students’ progression to meet the needs and demands of the clinical site
  • Act as a teacher/mentor/coach/role model/team member
  • Assist the student in meeting course objectives and individual learning needs
  • Review and provide ongoing constructive feedback
  • Communicate with Program faculty throughout the clinical rotation concerning students’ progress and notify of any immediate concerns
  • Complete a final evaluation of the students’ performance
  • Submit current CV and signed clinical paperwork
