About The Position

The UAA Department of Theatre and Dance in the College of Arts and Sciences is seeking adjunct instructors to prepare students for fulfilling careers in performance theatre. This position requires community and educational outreach; the ideal candidate should possess a vision of forward-thinking and collaborative storytelling. Successful candidates will possess strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, as well as a commitment to an undergraduate liberal arts education where an equally strong dedication to discovery is essential. Adjunct instructors are hired on a semester-by-semester appointment. Qualified applicants for this position will be placed into a hiring pool from which instructors will be hired as needed. Acceptance into the hiring pool does not constitute an offer of an appointment, nor does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be available the following semester; hiring decisions are made on a semester-by-semester basis according to the needs of that semester's schedule. Candidates will be evaluated on suitability of their academic preparation, past teaching experience, expertise in their discipline, and potential for providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students. Adjunct faculty with semester assignments are subject to evaluation for teaching effectiveness. Candidates must be available to work within Alaska during the length of any assignment. To thrive in this role adjunct faculty need a passion for sharing their knowledge and skills with students and a desire to help turn student aspirations into reality. The department is seeking candidates who possess a theatre/performance background which includes acting techniques, voice training, classical acting, and movement training and/or theatre history as relevant for the assigned course(s), as well as knowledge of classical, avant-garde, contemporary, youth theatre, and/or musical theatre. Additional areas such as directing theory, playwriting, script analysis, theatrical design and/or theatre technologies are encouraged.
