About The Position

Teach one 3-credit BIO 100 course as assigned by the department. Deliver instruction using course materials aligned with course learning outcomes, with an emphasis on active learning. Assess and evaluate student performance in a timely manner, maintain accurate grade records, and demonstrate improvement informed by student ratings and staff feedback. Hold regular weekly office hours (in-person and/or online). Communicate professionally and consistently with students, faculty, and department staff. This position will be teaching at the BYU Salt Lake Center in Salt Lake City.

Requirements

  • MS or higher in Biology or a closely related life science field.
  • Graduate coursework should include substantial preparation in cell biology, genetics, ecology, or evolutionary biology.
  • Must have required degree by the start date.
  • This position requires the successful candidate to relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of their employment.
  • All new employees who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be required to hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as an instructor of record for a general education life science course preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach scientific inquiry, cell structure and function, genetics, evolutionary theory, and ecological interactions.
  • Experience implementing active learning pedagogy is strongly preferred.
  • Preference is given to qualified candidates who are members in good standing of the affiliated church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  • Successful candidates are expected to support and contribute to the academic and religious missions of the university within the context of the principles and doctrines of the affiliated church.
