Job Summary: The Department of Literature, Journalism, Writing, and Languages is seeking candidates for an adjunct teaching position. The university is seeking an individual capable of excellent teaching. As specific needs for adjuncts are not always known, applicants who meet the initial review for qualifications will be placed into an adjunct pool for consideration as positions become available.

Requirements

• Masters in a specified discipline from an accredited college.
• Commitment to teaching excellence required.
• Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
• Ability to learn relevant sections of Point Loma Nazarene University's online integrated database system for student grading.
• Ability to adapt syllabi to include already established program, department, and university student learning outcomes.
• Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement.
• faculty agree to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant
• The job offer is contingent on the successful completion of a background check.

Nice To Haves

• Doctorate preferred.
• A minimum of one year teaching experience in higher education preferred.

Responsibilities

• Courses in a variety of subjects, which may include the following:
• College Composition
• Literature
• Foreign Language (Spanish & French)
• Journalism
• Adjuncts must have knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques appropriate to teaching undergraduate level, including ways to instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate students as well as the ability to write syllabi and deliver illustrated lectures.
