About The Position

The Department of Mathematical, Information and Computer Sciences is currently accepting applications for an adjunct pool in computer science, information systems and information technology. We are looking for candidates with knowledge in hardware, software, networking, security, database management, programming and website development. As specific needs for adjuncts are not always known, applicants who meet the initial review for qualifications will be placed into an adjunct pool for consideration as positions become available. An email will be sent to notify you of your pool status. PLNU adjunct pay: Using a 3-unit full semester appointment as a pay guide, the adjunct pay range is $5,013 - $6,684. The units will determine the actual salary.

Requirements

  • Masters in a specified discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Commitment to teaching excellence required.
  • Ability to learn relevant sections of Point Loma Nazarene University’s online integrated database system for student grading and the University’s learning management system.
  • Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
  • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement.
  • faculty agree to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant
  • The job offer is contingent on the successful completion of a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate preferred.
  • Industrial experience in software engineering, information technology or information systems is desired.
  • A minimum of one year teaching experience in higher education preferred.
  • We have an adult degree completion program in information technology so are seeking some candidates with experience teaching adult learners.

Responsibilities

  • Adjunct faculty members must have knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques appropriate to effective teaching in undergraduate courses as well as teaching in computer labs.
  • Adjuncts are also expected to have knowledge of ways to instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students as well as the ability to write syllabi and follow course plans.
