About The Position

The Department of Languages, Literature, and Philosophy anticipates the need for one or more part-time time-limited, non-tenure track positions in English. Adjunct instructors may be needed to teach courses, including EN 101, Composition I, and potentially other English course offerings that fit the candidate's qualifications as needed by the department. The ability to teach a face-to-face section in Columbus, Mississippi, is essential Mississippi University for Women is a teaching university with a mission to provide high quality undergraduate and graduate education for all students. Since EN 101 fulfills The W's Enlight Core Curriculum requirement for Written and Oral Communication, a broad cross-section of students from all academic disciplines on our campus will take these classes. Experience with and enthusiasm for mentoring such students will be highly valued. Adjunct Instructors may teach up to two three-hour classes or the equivalent per semester. Prior to hiring, the final candidate(s) must successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation. A prior conviction reported as a result of the background investigation DOES NOT automatically disqualify a candidate from consideration for this position. Requirements

  • MA in English or a related field
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work with students and colleagues
  • Availability to teach face-to-face classes in Columbus, Mississippi

Nice To Haves

  • PhD or ABD in English preferred
  • Experience teaching the assigned course or courses at the undergraduate level preferred
  • Experience with and enthusiasm for mentoring such students will be highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • To teach face-to-face sections of EN 101, and possibly other classes as needed
  • To provide a copy of the syllabus for each section to the department at a time prior to the first day of class
  • To accurately report grades and attendance and meet all reporting deadlines
  • To maintain regular online office hours and communicate with students outside of class
