The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's Race and Ethnic Studies Program, housed within the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies, is seeking an adjunct instructor in African American Studies starting August 2026. The program, which has a 40-year history at UW-Whitewater, prefers candidates with humanities, social science, and/or interdisciplinary approaches. The successful candidate will initially teach two sections of Introduction to Black Culture, with the possibility of teaching additional African American Studies courses in future semesters. The role involves a 2/2 teaching load and requires a commitment to diversity and inclusion. Instructors may be asked to teach online, in a hybrid format, or during evening hours. While service is not required, participation in community and professional organizations is encouraged. The Race and Ethnic Studies Program is one of the oldest in the Midwest, offering five minors, including new minors created in 2016 for African American Studies, Asian/Asian American Studies, First Nations and Indigenous Studies, and Latinx/é & Latin American Studies.
