About The Position

Kirkwood Community College's Industrial Technologies Department is seeking a part-time instructor for ATR-279 Intro to Industrial Networking (2 credits). The position requires working knowledge of IP addressing, subnetting, and universal naming conventions, as well as familiarity with the OSI and TCP/IP networking models. It also requires the ability to apply safe and effective practices when connecting and maintaining networked industrial equipment. Successful candidates will be self-motivated, goal-oriented, and able to communicate complex concepts clearly to students. The schedule for this course is as follows: Section A: T/TH, 7:00-9:40 am, January 13th - March 6th Section B: T/TH, 9:45-11:15 am, January 13th - May 4th The statements contained herein reflect general details as necessary to describe the essential job duties/responsibilities and performance expectations of the job, which should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience working with TCP/IP networks in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Experience using diagnostic tools or software to troubleshoot network communication between PLCs, HMIs, and connected devices.
  • Minimum of three years of full-time (6000 hours) of industry experience in one or more of the following areas: Industrial networking or systems integration.
  • PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms).
  • Maintenance and repair of networked industrial systems or automated equipment.
  • Configuration and commissioning of Ethernet/IP Modbus TCP, or other industrial communication networks.
  • OR a bachelor's degree in Industrial Technology, Automation, Networking, or related field with at least 12 credit hours related to the areas described above.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry-recognized certifications such as Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, SACA Industrial Networking, or Rockwell Automation Certified Programmer.
  • Experience integrating PLCs, sensors, and HMIs over industrial Ethernet or other fieldbus networks.
  • Experience supporting Industry 4.0/Smart Manufacturing systems, including IoT-enabled devices.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity practices for industrial control systems.
  • Experience teaching at a college level or experience in industrial training.
  • Experience working with English Language Learners.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively organize and teach curriculum in accordance with established syllabi.
  • Deliver in-person instruction and engage students.
  • Prepare syllabi, evaluate student work, and provide timely and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain a safe lab environment.
  • Refer students to appropriate college support services as needed.
