About The Position

The SAGE (Seasoned Adults Growing Educationally) Program is seeking an engaging and organized History and Culture Instructor to teach non-credit enrichment courses for older adult learners. Topics may include U.S. and world history, cultural traditions, social movements, art and music history, and other humanities-focused subjects. The instructor will plan and deliver interactive, discussion-based instruction that encourages participation and critical thinking while creating a welcoming and inclusive learning environment. Instruction is designed for adults aged 60 and older and should reflect diverse perspectives, life experiences, and learning styles. The instructor is expected to remain current in their discipline, assess learning engagement, and participate in curriculum development and professional development activities that support lifelong learning and community connection for older adults. This position is not a remote position and requires teaching on-site.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in History, Art History, Music, Cultural Studies, African American Studies, Women’s Studies, Anthropology, Education, or a related field required. Equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree depending on the course content/subject matter.
  • Professional certification, licensure, registry, or other credentialing as required for the specific discipline or content area.
  • Specialized experience in teaching or working with older adults (age 60+), including an understanding of age-related learning needs, cognitive and physical changes, and how these affect instructional strategies.
