About The Position

The Fashion Department is recruiting a pool of applicants for possible adjunct teaching positions. Successful candidates may teach one or more of the following courses: Materials and Construction (Sewing Levels 1 & 2) Instruction in the foundational skills of garment construction, from skirts to fully lined sewn blazers. These courses focus on sewing, not tailoring. The instructor will teach proper use of basic construction machinery and techniques for garment assembly, seams, finishes, and professional standards. Students will learn how to produce well-constructed garments using industry best practices. Design Studio (Draping Levels 1, 2, & 3) Instruction in hands-on draping techniques, beginning with fundamental skills such as proper tool use, fabric grain, and garment balance. Students will progress from unstructured draping using soft fabrics to structured techniques for more complex garments. The instructor will address finishing details and guide students in exploring the relationship between two-dimensional patternmaking and three-dimensional draping. Construction techniques and finishing practices will be integrated throughout all levels. Apparel Design Studio - Patternmaking (Level 3) Instruction in patternmaking techniques including development of basic slopers, pattern identification, proper tool usage, and hands-on design room methods. Students will learn basic through advanced techniques as they create design prototypes. Knowledge of construction processes and machinery is essential for linking design and production elements. Adjunct instructors deliver relevant course material, assess student performance, provide guidance and assistance to students both in and out of the classroom, and submit grades on time. Course descriptions are available in the online catalog.
