About The Position

The College of Lake County is seeking innovative and engaging instructors to develop programs and teach classes for adults in the community. Students range from those beginning or enhancing their career to those adding hobbies, experiences, or community to their lives. Please visit https://learn.clcillinois.edu/ for information on currently offered classes. Adjunct faculty: Will develop and teach in the assigned subject(s) and level(s) in new or existing programs. Will fulfill administrative requirements, meet established deadlines and complete required training. Expected to stay current in compliance training, including compliance under Title IX “Responsible Employee” and, if applicable, Clery Act Campus Security Authority as a condition of employment. Will agree to and follow appropriate College and department policies and procedures. Schedule varies. Days, evenings and Saturday hours are possible. Possible class locations include CLC Grayslake Campus, Southlake Campus (Vernon Hills) or Lakeshore Campus (Waukegan), Braeloch Facility, CLC Advanced Technology Center (Gurnee) or a CLC extension site. Possible delivery modes include in-person, virtual live via Zoom, asynchronous, or a hybrid of the aforementioned. In-person is most common. The Faculty Success Framework illustrates the fundamental elements of a faculty member’s career at CLC. Its purpose is to support a culture of continual faculty development and to provide full but flexible paths for faculty to both consistently contribute to student success efforts and cultivate professional fulfillment. Our Guiding Principles for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CLC CARES) outline the qualities we expect CLC faculty will exemplify in their professional and pedagogical engagement with students.

Requirements

  • Relevant teaching experience to the proposed programs.
  • Valid certifications or licenses for related topics (e.g. Continuing Education credits, position-specific training)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and teach adults successfully.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach successfully both in person and online.
  • Competency and/or commitment to learn and use technologies commonly used in instruction at CLC: Zoom, Canvas, Destiny, Adobe Cloud, Microsoft 365, etc.
  • Ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, gender identities, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years of relevant, successful experience teaching adults at the experience level for which you are applying.
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Education or related field.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
