About The Position

The History Department at Wheaton College seeks an adjunct instructor to teach History 102 or History 103, which are general education classes, but have a specific content focus and teach historical thinking. HIST 102 seminars encourage students to examine cross cultural interactions outside the U.S. through a focus on a particular historical question, period, or event. HIST 103 seminars provide an in-depth exploration of a critical period, concept, source, or event in U.S. History, analyzed within an explicitly comparative or cross-cultural framework. No matter the geographic content, the class will emphasize the development of historical thinking and Christian perspectives in the study of the past and equip students for life-long learning by helping them to understand why Christians value study of the past and by giving them the tools to investigate it. Students will learn to appreciate historical knowledge, engage in historical reasoning, develop historical consciousness, and practice historical reflection. We seek a colleague dedicated to engaging undergraduate instruction in a liberal arts setting. Applicants should have teaching experience and hold a master’s degree or higher in history or a related field. To apply, please submit a letter of interest and a curriculum vitae to Dr. Karen Johnson, History Department Chair, [email protected]. In the cover letter, please include reference to Wheaton College’s Christian identity. Complete application materials will be requested from eligible candidates. Please do not send transcripts or letters of recommendation, unless requested. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The position pays $935 per credit hour for an MA with fewer than 3 years of experience teaching at Wheaton, and $1,100 per credit hour for a PhD or faculty overload. Wheaton College is an evangelical Protestant Christian liberal arts college whose faculty and staff affirm a Statement of Faith and adhere to the lifestyle expectations of the Wheaton College Community Covenant. Wheaton is an equal-opportunity employer committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse and talented workforce and student body. We encourage the expression of multiple perspectives within a Christian worldview, inside and outside the classroom. For more information about Wheaton College, visit www.wheaton.edu .
