About The Position

The Elmhurst Learning and Success Academy (ELSA), a four-year certificate program for students with disabilities, is seeking an individual to teach one (1) or more courses regarding college life and career exploration: ELS 001-87 Educational Coaching, fall 2026 and spring 2027 semesters, Mondays and Wednesdays 1:00-2:00 PM, start date = August 31, 2026. This course is designed so that students may reach out for assistance with academics. ELS 020-86 Introduction to College Life, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:50-11:30 AM, start date = September 1, 2026. This course introduces students to various skills and resources that can help them be successful in college. The activities in this class will help students become more aware of their abilities and challenges and teach them how to be more independent on-campus and in their studies. Students will gain knowledge and experience by participating in class activities and taking an active role in day-to-day life on-campus. Topics of discussion will include: how to set and implement short-term goals for the first semester of ELSA, individual learning styles, study skills, getting involved on-campus, organization and time management skills, future job considerations on-campus (or in the community), navigating the campus including the cafeteria, bookstore, library, and fitness center. ELS 021-86 Career Exploration, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 10:30-11:35 AM, start date = February 1, 2027. This course introduces students to various skills necessary in learning about career paths, fundamental career/academic decisions and discover more about vocational interests and aptitudes. Students will gain knowledge and experience through participation in-class activities, discussion, research, and occupational laboratories experiences in the community. Topics of discussion will focus on career paths, employment, and the world of work. Successful ELSA Adjuncts are invested in being collaborative, possess the desire to work in higher education, and are open to working with students with varying abilities.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Special Education, Higher Education, Counseling or related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to collaborate and build rapport with students.
  • Open to problem-solving.
  • Flexibility to work with staff regarding student/class needs.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and delivers instruction in the classroom (or guidance outside of the classroom, in the case of the coaching course).
  • Collaborates with ELSA Director and adjunct faculty to evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum as needed for mastery of course content.
  • Provides students with assessment and clear feedback regarding academic performance.
  • Documents student progress and maintains accurate records such as attendance, grading, and achievement of student learning outcomes.
  • Maintains office hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
