About The Position

The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a part-time Adjoint Professor to collaborate with colleagues at all levels of the organization. This individual will work independently and in collaboration with Center for COMBAT Research leadership, associated investigators, and collaborators. This position will serve as an investigator at the rank of Adjoint Professor. The successful candidate will have a documented track record of conducting clinical or health systems research, specifically focused on surgical and critical care, or emergency medical services (EMS) and pre-hospital systems of care for trauma. This position is non-clinical and suitable for doctoral level applicants with relevant training and expertise.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, MD, DO, DrPH, DPT)
  • Experience in working in or contributing to trauma systems of care, surgical or critical care research
  • Track record of multiple publications relevant to combat casualty care and trauma systems in peer-reviewed journals
  • Prior work on a multi-disciplinary research team
  • Knowledge of clinical terminology
  • Knowledge of trauma systems of care
  • Efficient and hardworking approach

Responsibilities

  • Support COMBAT affiliated faculty in the development and execution of research grants to federal and non-federal sponsors focused on trauma systems of care, including surgical and critical care for trauma patients
  • Employ rigorous, state-of-the-art research methodologies to fill contemporary knowledge gaps around clinical performance metrics, skill sustainment, and trauma system optimization
  • Under the direction of Department of Emergency Medicine EMS leadership, develop regional and national partnerships with EMS and health system leaders to expand research infrastructure
  • Contribute to development of scientific manuscripts, presentations, and dissemination materials with COMBAT affiliated faculty
  • Serve as a mentor to research faculty and trainees, including support of manuscript writing
  • Work specifically with the Cape Colorado Combat (C3) research team to: o Perform technical review of scientific materials (e.g., manuscripts, technical reports, grant applications, presentations, briefings), make edits, and provide detailed feedback o Contribute as an author on scientific manuscripts intended for peer-reviewed journal submission o Participate in C3 internal scientific or technical meetings to brainstorm new scientific ideas (e.g., future grants, ideas for manuscripts, presentations) and strengthen on-going scientific activities o Deliver scientific or technical presentations and briefings on behalf of C3 (e.g., at national conferences, at DOD meetings) o Provide scientific advice and strategic guidance to the C3 investigators on the topic of improving military and civilian trauma care
  • Participate as a member of the Department’s research faculty
  • Other research-relevant duties as assigned to promote the mission and vision of the Department of Emergency Medicine
