About The Position

The Recovery Support Specialist facilitates psychosocial assessments, provides recovery education, and coordinates discharge planning and community resource linkage. This role incorporates lived experience in recovery with specialized training and human service skills to support individuals with mental illness and/or substance use disorders in achieving wellness and resilience. Location: Onsite at Springfield Memorial Hospital Shift: 11am - 7pm Mon - Fri

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Understanding of addictions, recovery principles, and SBIRT protocols.
  • Ability to apply motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent employment experience (e.g., 3–4 years in behavioral health or peer support roles) may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) credential within 18 months of hire.
  • Prior experience in substance abuse treatment or peer support roles preferred.

  • Conduct SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment) to determine level of care and discharge needs.
  • Facilitate addiction treatment and education services across age groups.
  • Provide recovery-oriented education and materials to individuals and families.
  • Coordinate discharge planning and linkage to community resources.
  • Maintain current knowledge of community resources and collaborate with agencies.
  • Partner with individuals to develop personalized recovery and relapse prevention plans.
  • Participate as an active member of treatment teams, promoting person-centered recovery.
  • Document all services accurately per regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Respond appropriately to risk indicators, including suicide prevention and abuse/neglect concerns.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain continuing education requirements.
