About The Position

Under the direct supervision, the ADA Coordinatore will have the primary day-to-day responsibility of facilitating the implementation of the policies and procedures related to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Specialist will ensure that individuals subject to Section 504 and the ADA are not denied the opportunity to participate in, receive benefits from, or otherwise be discriminated against on the basis of a disability while participating in the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program.

Requirements

  • A minimum of two years of progressively responsible work experience
  • Knowledge of federal and state disability laws regarding access for people with disabilities; specifically, related to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand and apply regulations, Federal, State, local laws and codes
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, internal and external customers
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Strong problem solving skills, and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, including: Excel, Word, Outlook

Responsibilities

  • Remove barriers to requesting reasonable accommodation and ensure requests can be submitted quickly and effectively.
  • Properly document all reasonable accommodations received orally or in writing from applicants and participants (or someone on their behalf).
  • Assist applicants and participants, by effective follow through, of the need for a reasonable accommodation.
  • Provide related training and education to staff, applicants, and participants, as necessary, on the Agency's Reasonable Accommodation policies and procedures;
  • Oversee and assure timely processing and responses to a variety of reasonable accommodations requests from HCV applicants and participants.
  • Ensure the security of sensitive/confidential medical information
  • Compose and provide timely distribution of responses, letters/correspondence and transactions (e.g. interim recertification's)
  • Attend all required training to remain aware of new interpretation of the ADA.
  • Serve as a liaison between Housing Choice Voucher Program and the PHA, ADA Coordinator to ensure problems are resolved and that disabled individuals receive necessary services.
  • All other duties as assigned.
