As an Actuarial Consultant on our high performance Actuarial Pricing team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping pricing strategies for UnitedHealthcare’s Large Group Stop Loss products. The challenges in this role are significant. You will be empowered, supported, and encouraged to apply your actuarial expertise as you conduct financial analyses and build models that enhance the competitiveness of our plans. You will also play a key part in supporting national Stop Loss filing efforts to ensure all regulatory deadlines are met. You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week. You’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Actively progressing on the actuarial exam track, having passed 4+ actuarial exams
  • 3+ years of actuarial experience (collecting, analyzing, and summarizing qualitative and quantitative data)
  • Hands-on experience building actuarial models
  • Beginner or higher level of proficiency with SQL, SAS, and/or VBA for actuarial model development
  • Advanced or higher level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, calculations, charts, graphs, and data manipulation)

Nice To Haves

  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA)
  • Experience in finance or the healthcare industry
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, SAS, and/or VBA
  • Proven excellent written or oral communication skills
  • Proven excellent organizational and documentation skills

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret quantitative data to develop and review monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc exhibits using detailed data sets
  • Perform data mining and analysis to inform foundational pricing and risk assumptions
  • Develop accurate premium rates for existing and new products
  • Extract and compile group specific utilization data to support pricing analysis
  • Produce Stop Loss rate filings
  • Participate in the UHC Actuarial Leadership Development Program (ALDP), rotating through Actuarial business areas over a defined period
