About The Position

Reporting to the Clinical Programs Manager, the Activity Therapist provides appropriate assessment, treatment groups and record keeping on all patients involved in Creative Therapies program. Activity Therapist performs all functions as outlined in Title XXII under activity therapy. Participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning. Represents specific specialization as well as Creative Therapies Services as a whole within the clinical program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreational, Art, Music, movement/Dance Therapy or other appropriate discipline.
  • Psychiatric Inpatient or Outpatient experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
  • The incumbent must have knowledge of variability in criteria used to determine medical necessity and appropriateness of treatment for children, adolescents and adult.
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS card.
  • Certificate or Registration through discipline specific credentialing process.
  • Required water-safety certification per Stanislaus County Water Safety Regulations within 60 days of hire.
  • Valid CA Drivers License and proof of automotive insurance.
  • Standing, lifting, push/pull, climbing, reaching, sitting, twisting, bending, manual dexterity and mobility, touch, auditory and visual perception and acuity, adequate vocal pitch and volume of voice, ability to move quickly.
  • Lift/position up to 50 lbs.
  • Push/pull up to 50 lbs of force.
  • Sufficient perceptive acuity (vision and hearing) to perform all the related duties of the position
  • Regularly exposed to the risk of contagious and blood borne pathogens, subject to varying and unpredictable situations, exposure to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, illness), emergency and crisis situations, subject to irregular hours, occasional pressure due to multiple calls, patient turnover, interruptions and inquiries, subject to exposure to electrical mechanical hazards, radiation hazards, radioactive substances and biohazard material, exposure to potentially combative persons.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes, plans, and conducts the therapeutic activity program, conducting a needs assessment on a regular basis and designs the program based upon variances in the patient population.
  • Is knowledgeable regarding patient legal status.
  • Demonstrates skill and knowledge relating to professional response to assaultive patients, able to identify and de-escalates potentially assaultive patients.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of DSM IV-R diagnosis and treatment modalities for psychiatric patients.
  • Conducts individual activity therapy assessments and provides written treatment plans within 72 hours of admission.
  • Assists the Clinical Programs Manager with Program Content and Design to serve the targeted patient population.
  • Plans and conducts daily recreational and activity programs, with individual sessions as needed, in accordance with interdisciplinary treatment plan, daily priorities of patients and needs of the unit.
  • Maintains clean safe pleasant environment for recreation, providing seasonal/holiday specific decorations.
  • Provide clinical oversight of Activity Therapist to ensure appropriate implementation of program.
  • Completes incident reports and ensures the physician and management are fully aware of any incidents occurring during their shift.
  • Acts as a positive agent for change by demonstrating flexibility and innovation.
  • Acts as a resource in assisting others with recreational activity objectives as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.
