POSITION SUMMARY: • Provide group therapeutic activities for assigned patients as scheduled. • Assess patient needs and facilitate activities that are appropriate to age, development, needs and interests of the patients served. • Document group sessions in the medical record per hospital requirements. • Provide services as a member of the multidisciplinary team and as directed by the attending physician, the Director of Social Services or Activity Therapy Coordinator and the patient’s treatment plan. • Communicate with nursing staff any changes in a patient’s status, including medical or behavioral. • Interact with patients, family members, external entities and internal staff professionally and respectfully. • Work collaboratively with all treatment team members to create a treatment environment that supports the hospital’s mission to provide exemplary patient care and customer service. • Act to preserve patient and family dignity and safety. • Documentation for medical records and reports are timely, legible, thorough, and in required format. • Document as required including assessments, treatment plans, and group notes. • Update and revise treatment plan as assigned and per policy. • Ability to effectively listen, process received information, and express ideas verbally and in writing. • Ability to initiate action, takes personal responsibility, suggest improvements, and solve problems within scope of job without being asked. • Ability to understand and comply with government regulations, regulatory standards and hospital policies. • Ability to record, report, and maintain confidentiality of information and respond to requests for information. • Ability to get assigned work done in an acceptable manner, in the time allotted, with minimal prompting or reminders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Art, Music, Dance Therapy or Therapeutic Recreation or related discipline.
  • Licensure or Certification as required by accreditation or certification body specific to the individual’s discipline.
  • Three years clinical experience in a psychiatric setting, with at least one year’s experience applying activity therapy methods and techniques preferred.
