Learn more at The Opportunity Youth Services Activity Leaders are responsible for leading high-quality, developmentally appropriate afterschool programming for early childhood-aged children. They design and implement engaging activities that support early learning through creative play, arts, movement, and exploration, while fostering a safe, nurturing, and joyful environment. Activity Leaders serve as the primary classroom lead during afterschool hours and work closely with program staff to ensure smooth daily operations, positive behavior support, and meaningful learning experiences for all children. Requirements

  • Must be responsible, reliable and punctual
  • Must have passion for the Greenwich House mission and demonstrated interest in the field of education and youth development
  • A genuine enthusiasm for working with early childhood aged children and supporting their social, emotional, and developmental growth
  • Ability to support early learning through creative, play-based activities, including arts and crafts, games, movement, and social-emotional learning
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with children, families, and staff
  • Experience working with children ages 3-11 in a group setting
  • High School Degree/Equivalent required. AA or BA in-progress preferred
  • Must pass pre-employment background investigation including but not limited to fingerprinting, employment history, and criminal background check
  • Must complete mandatory DOH/OCFS training prior to employment

Responsibilities

  • Plan, lead, and implement developmentally appropriate, play-based activities aligned with early childhood best practices
  • Design simple, engaging lesson plans that promote creativity, movement, social-emotional development, and early skill-building
  • Establish and maintain clear routines, expectations, and positive behavior guidance appropriate for young children
  • Supervise children at all times, including during activities, snack, outdoor play, transitions, and trips
  • Provide guidance and direction to classroom support staff to manage classroom flow and student engagement
  • Foster a warm, inclusive atmosphere of fun and learning and serve as a positive role model
  • Communicate effectively with program leadership regarding classroom needs, student progress, and daily operations
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming learning environment at all times
  • Promote positive character development, cooperation, and respectful behavior among all children
