We are seeking an Activity Coordinator to join our team at our program in Philadelphia. Earn: $19.00 non-bachelor's degree and $21.00 with bachelor's degree The Activity Coordinator is responsible for offering recreation and leisure time activities to developmentally disabled individuals. The coordinator will develop structured class and leisure time activities, as well as organize and supervise recreational and leisure activities to provide healthful recreational outlets for the individuals in our care.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree such as art, dance, music or physical education is desired.
  • A current, valid driver’s license is required.
  • Related experience is desired.
  • Knowledge of the principle of physical education, recreation, and leisure activities and their therapeutic value, as it relates to intellectually developmentally disabled individuals.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures of the facility.
  • Ability to maintain all required documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive work relationship with staff and individuals.
  • Ability to lift and transfer individuals, utilizing prescribed techniques usually exceeding fifty (50) pounds.
  • Ability to develop and carry-out activities with creativity and initiative.
  • Ability to organize and direct team and individual competition.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, as it relates to recreational and leisure activities

Responsibilities

  • Share in the development of activities that are developmental regarding the individual’s functioning level and skill abilities.
  • Develop a system for class participation and be consistent with techniques and methods used in recreation/leisure classes.
  • Be creative in the development of activities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to participate in evening group activities.
  • Teach direct care staff on how to encourage the individuals to participate to their fullest potential.
  • Develop a solid, consistent award system for all recreational activities.
  • Supervise and organize interesting clubs, e.g., Nature Club, Sports/Leisure, Fitness Club, as appropriate.
  • Share in the responsibility of conducting a survey of the individuals’ interests and needs.
  • Plan, develop, implement, organize and supervise activities of team and individual activities.
  • Facilitate community resources for the individuals who reside in the facility.
  • Facilitate community outings and encourage participation.
  • Monitor documentation of individual’s participation in activities offered and ensure the safety of individuals by maintaining a safe recreational environment.
  • Keep storage and work area clean and properly arranged.
  • Order and issue recreation and leisure equipment, while keeping inventory records
  • Notify other departments of recreational/leisure activities and individual’s participation.
  • Assist in planning and implementing special events and off campus trips.
  • Assist in the review and evaluation of the standards and needs of the various activities.
  • Initiate activities that would benefit the individual’s social and emotional skills.
  • Assist with individuals Activities of Daily Living and assist with escorting individuals, as needed.
  • Perform related work as required.
