About The Position

The primary purpose of the Charles Lea Center staff is to empower and support people through an individualized approach where they live, learn, work and play. The Activity and Outreach Coordinator is responsible for developing, facilitating, and overseeing recreational, social, and educational programs that meet the unique needs of participants with intellectual and physical disabilities. This role also fosters community inclusion by developing partnerships, coordinating volunteer activities, and promoting the program to increase community awareness. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. The Activity and Outreach Coordinator will work closely with staff within the Focus, Hooper, and Cheslea programs.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree, a minimum of 2 years of experience in a Human Services related field involving the facilitation of activities for individuals served.
  • Strong ability to plan, organize, and implement programs with effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with participants, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Valid driver’s license and Social Security number
  • Basic computer and documentation skills
  • Ability to pass required background and reference checks

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain partnerships that promote meaningful community inclusion and engagement.
  • Attend scheduled events, monitor activity compliance, and provide feedback to enhance service quality.
  • Meet regularly with the Community Support Director to plan upcoming events, activities, and budgetary needs.
  • Serve as a member of the Community Support Leadership Team alongside Program Managers and Program Leads.
  • Encourage intellectual and educational growth through literature, technology, cultural events, and community resources.
  • Coordinate training and placement of volunteers, interns, and student practicums within Day Service programs.
  • Represent Charles Lea Center on the Spartanburg Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities and share insights with CLC leadership.
  • Design and lead person-centered activities, including small-group, one-on-one, and large-group programming such as arts and crafts, physical activities, music, and educational workshops.
  • Create and distribute monthly activity calendars that promote independence, engagement, and social interaction.
  • Provide direct support and encouragement to participants during activities to support individual goals.
  • Utilize adaptive equipment to ensure full participation for individuals with mobility or sensory challenges.
  • Collaborate with Direct Support Staff to promote participation and support effective activity facilitation.
  • Serve as a Technology and Program Initiative Ambassador, supporting technology-based activity tools and training staff on new program initiatives (e.g., Kibu).
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including attendance records and progress notes, in accordance with CLC standards.
  • Collaborate with leadership to plan and manage the activity budget, purchase supplies, and identify cost-effective program solutions.
  • Ensure all activities and outings comply with safety protocols and monitor participants’ health status, reporting concerns as needed.
  • Provide a monthly calendar of anticipated special events and activities to support effective communication across programs.
