About The Position

The Activities Specialist serves as a vital member of the Interdisciplinary Team for Merryfield Residence, a 9-bed Intermediate Care Facility. This position is responsible for working directly with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to improve cognitive functioning, problem-solving skills, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills, while increasing overall involvement in activities and socialization.
The Specialist provides comprehensive assessment and planning to meet the unique needs and interests of each resident. Primary duties include providing educational instruction, coordinating and facilitating both individual and group activities, and implementing arts, crafts, and social programs. A key focus of the role is providing opportunities and training that allow individuals to preserve and improve their abilities for independent functioning, with a strong emphasis on social engagement and community inclusion.

As part of the clinical team, the employee attends regular meetings to help develop treatment plans and provide essential feedback on individual outcomes. This role requires a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate planned social events, resident needs, and the necessary observation, program implementation, and documentation of progress..

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED (required)
• Valid Driver's License (required)
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's Degree in Education or Human Services (preferred)
• Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or mental health diagnosis (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized assessment of intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals' needs and interests, and develop activities, educational programming, and active treatment
• Plan, coordinate, and implement activities, including recreational, leisure/social, and community activities. Provide interventions for active treatment at the ICF/IID and in the community
• Provide assistance with developing individualized service plans to address social activities, social involvement, and educational needs
