About The Position

The Activities Assistant works closely with the Independent Living Activities Director in planning, organizing, and overseeing a robust and diversified activities program to support the social, emotional, physical, spiritual and intellectual well-being of our residents. The Activities Assistant will independently organize and direct scheduled activities. The assistant will also participate in social committee planning, schedule speakers and performers, and plan trips for the residents. Knowledge of AV equipment is needed for various videos, movies, PowerPoint presentations, etc. The Assistant will coordinate with the Wellness Nurse on activities that emphasize resident well-being. We look forward to this staff member helping to broaden the offering of activities and bring new ideas.

Requirements

  • Skills, Abilities & Competencies:
  • College graduate or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk hear, and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and be able to work at heights. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus as well as work on a computer for extended periods of time. The employee must be able to communicate verbally with other on the phone or in person.
  • Must be computer proficient (Microsoft Publisher and Office) and possess excellent attention to detail.
  • Must be adept at using social media outlets and have the ability to deal tactfully and positively with people and be comfortable interacting and engaging with residents.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with previous activities experience in a retirement community setting will be strongly considered.
  • Knowledge of AV equipment is needed for various videos, movies, PowerPoint presentations, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Activities Director in carrying out the day-to-day operations of the department, supporting the Members’ activities and programming.
  • Assist the Activities Director in visiting new Members and reporting any special interests or needs of Members noted during visits.
  • Prepare the various activities areas for specific programs and events, including the Auditorium, Exercise Rooms, Card Room, Classroom, Club Room, Parlor, Arts & Crafts Room, etc. Make sure that these areas are cleaned and returned to normal after the activities.
  • Assist with the preparation and production of the bi-weekly Members' newsletter, as well as the monthly activities calendar.
  • Independently organize and direct scheduled activities on evenings, weekends, or when the Activities Director is unavailable.
  • At all times, maintain confidentiality and promote Members' rights.
  • Research trips, speakers, and performers for the Members and bring the results of said research to the attention of the Activities Director.
  • Assist Activities Director as requested in implementing the full activities program, making work schedule adjustments as necessary to meet the demands of special events or circumstances. Participate with a social committee and coordinate programs with the Wellness Nurse to help promote residents well-being.
  • Post to Vicar’s Landing social media, including Facebook and Instagram. Post all activities to Vicar’s Cubigo platform, an internal community program. Record (video) Vicar’s activities as needed.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
