Under the direction of the Director of ACE Scholars Services (ACE), the ACE Counselor is responsible for providing comprehensive academic, personal, and transitional counseling, case management, and programming to students in the ACE Scholars Services program, California State University San Marcos’ specialized program for students with foster care backgrounds. The ACE Counselor will provide ACE Scholars with support and resources using trauma-informed counseling techniques and interventions. The ACE Counselor will conduct needs assessments, support in crisis situations and mental health triage as needed, provide advocacy, and connect students to campus and community resources based on individualized support plans. The ACE Counselor will initiate and develop ongoing relationships with campus and community partners to promote student retention and graduation. The ACE Counselor requires the application of a high degree of judgment, professional skills, and knowledge in the area of case management and an understanding of the child welfare system’s complex laws and regulations. ACE Counselor (Student Services Professional III) This is a full-time, exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.
