About The Position

Adult Community Clinical Services is a Department of Mental Health funded service that is designed to deliver evidence-based interventions within a clinically focused model. Individuals served are diagnosed with mental illness or dual diagnosis and reside in their own homes, apartments, or in group living environments. Our services focus on helping people transition to a more independent environment while maximizing their natural supports by building skills and achieving personal goals. The teams are tight knit, supportive and multidisciplinary. Open Sky’s talented clinicians, substance use counselors, nurses, peer staff, housing counselors, outreach counselors, and direct care staff provide quality, compassionate care to individuals served. The Sign Language Interpreter will provide ASL interpretation to support the ACCS team in providing services to Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals receiving services from ACCS. This position will enable communication between the deaf and hearing staff and between deaf individuals and hearing staff. This position supports the Leominster and Worcester regions and requires travel to programs of these areas.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent, required.
  • Current National Interpreter Certification (NIC) from the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and 2 years of ASL interpreting, required.
  • Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record, required.
  • Reliability, willingness to learn, and being open to new opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Interpreting in person and virtual staff trainings, meetings among staff members and team meetings between individuals served by the program and members of our integrated team.
  • Interpreting for small group gatherings between individuals served and staff and for clinical assessments between individuals served and clinical staff members.
  • Traveling to individual’s homes or locations in the community on occasion to interpret between hearing staff and Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing individuals served.
  • Working in collaboration with external interpreters for assignments requiring a second interpreter.
  • Providing education to trainers and meeting leaders regarding providing a deaf-friendly atmosphere at the beginning of each training or meeting.
