About The Position

The Sign Language Interpreter facilitates effective communication between individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and individuals who can hear. This role provides real-time interpretation using American Sign Language (ASL), including signing, finger spelling, and non-verbal communication techniques. The position ensures accurate, culturally appropriate, and professional interpretation services in support of organizational and stakeholder needs. Requirements

Approximately four (4) years of experience providing professional sign language interpretation services.
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
Current National Interpreter Certification (NIC) credential from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) required.
Strong understanding of Deaf culture and communication norms.
Ability to provide interpretation in professional, technical, and formal settings.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
Ability to perform in dynamic, live communication environments.
Bachelor’s Degree (BS/BA) in Business, Deaf Studies, Linguistics, Communications, or related field required;OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Provide real-time interpretation services between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL).
Facilitate communication in meetings, briefings, training sessions, interviews, and other engagements.
Utilize signing, finger spelling, and appropriate body language to ensure clarity and accuracy.
Maintain neutrality and professionalism during interpretation sessions.
Ensure accurate and complete communication of content, tone, and intent.
Adhere to ethical standards and professional guidelines established by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information encountered during interpretation.
Coordinate with stakeholders to clarify terminology or context when necessary.
Prepare for interpretation assignments by reviewing relevant materials as appropriate.
