About the position

The DHHS Financial Service Center is seeking an Accounts Payable Specialist to join the Accounts Payable Team. This position will contribute to the Department's mission by helping us ensure state and federal funds are utilized in an efficient manner to meet the health and welfare needs of Maine's citizens. This is a full-time position located in Augusta and allows for partial telework with management approval.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a quality review of invoices to ensure they are paid accurately.
  • Review, enter, process and reconcile documents required for invoice processing.
  • Adhere to applicable procedures, policies, federal requirements and state statutes.
  • Ensure accurate payment processing through the accounting systems by conducting quality assurance and approving invoices.
  • Collaborate with team members to improve processes, resolve issues and achieve department goals.

Requirements

  • Entry-level to intermediate education, training, and/or experience in accounting or another closely related field demonstrating competency applying accounting principles, reviewing and processing business transactions, and preparing reports.
  • Possess good critical thinking skills, be flexible and adaptable to a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic understanding of Accounting Practices and Controls.
  • Prior experience and/or education which demonstrates knowledge of GAAP/GASB, analyzing accounting data and accounting reconciliations.
