About The Position

The Accounts Payable Manager will be responsible for managing the end-to-end accounts payable cycle, including timely invoice processing & vendor payment, balance sheet reconciliation, and internal reporting of metrics. This role will also oversee the accounts payable staff, providing mentorship, training, and timely performance feedback. Additionally, the person in this role will work cross-functionally with procurement, contracts, and project teams to align processes & ensure timely and accurate invoice payments. The successful candidate will demonstrate prior experience improving AP processes & AP team performance as well as experience with Oracle Fusion Cloud or a similar Tier 1 ERP system (Peoplesoft, Oracle EBS, SAP).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
  • Minimum of 8 years work experience in accounts payable or general accounting; plus 3+ years as an AP Manager with direct reports in a high volume (1000+ invoices/month) environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience with Oracle Cloud or another Tier 1 ERP system (MS Dynamics 365, SAP) is required
  • Proactive about identifying process inefficiencies & proposing workflow improvements
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented; high degree of accuracy
  • Strong leadership, team management, and team building skills
  • Capable of quickly comprehending new information and technologies
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills; must be able to document and explain process change, system controls or compliance requirements concisely
  • Analytical/problem solving – ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems in a timely manner

Responsibilities

  • Manage the end to end AP process including ensuring timely and accurate invoice processing, with requirement to process invoices as needed
  • Manage, mentor and develop a team of AP specialists
  • Manage cross functional collaboration relating to Accounts Payable. Resolve issues that affect multiple departments
  • Identify and document root causes of payment delays & payment errors, implement corrective actions, monitor and report results
  • Maintain positive relationships with vendors
  • Develop and maintain KPIs and dashboards to efficiently monitor the AP process & provide AP reports to department & project leaders as needed
  • Assist with internal & external audits as the primary AP point of contact and ensure compliance with SOX and other internal controls
  • Drive system enhancements and implementation of technology tools including but not limited to the Oracle ERP system and AP automation tools
  • Perform general ledger accounting tasks including preparation of balance sheet reconciliations
  • Review balance sheet results during month-end close. Determine & propose any needed adjustments in accordance with GAAP
  • Identify unallowable costs according to government rules and/or contractual terms
  • Implement policies and procedures to help improve efficiencies
  • Comply with internal control procedures on a day to day basis
  • Perform moderately complex accounting tasks/analysis, categorize data for reporting and audit purposes
  • Respond to written and verbal inquiries from stakeholders using general knowledge of accounting policies and procedures
