About The Position

The Monument Companies is seeking an Accounts Payable & Innovation Associate who is ready to build a strong foundation in accounting while helping us modernize how we work! This is more than a traditional entry-level accounting role. You will begin with hands-on responsibility in Accounts Payable and bank reconciliations, learning the core financial operations that keep our real estate portfolio running smoothly. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to work alongside our Strategic Operations & Innovation team to help implement technology and AI tools that streamline processes and reduce manual work. If you are motivated, detail-oriented, and excited about both finance and innovation, this role offers a clear growth path into Asset Management. In your first phase, you will take ownership of day-to-day Accounts Payable responsibilities. This includes processing invoices, preparing payments, reconciling vendor statements, and completing monthly bank reconciliations. You will work closely with property managers and asset managers to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and strong financial controls. As you gain experience, your role will expand. You will assist with month-end close, support financial reporting, and gain exposure to development accounting, loan draws, and portfolio-level reporting. Over time, you will begin supporting investor and lender reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance tracking. Because you will be directly involved in our transactional processes, you will be in a unique position to help identify inefficiencies and measure the impact of automation improvements. This role is designed to evolve into broader Asset Management responsibilities as your skills grow. This position begins as hourly, non-exempt due to its transactional accounting focus and is expected to transition to exempt status as responsibilities expand. Founded in 1998, The Monument Companies is a fully integrated real estate development, construction, and property management firm serving communities across Virginia and beyond. We remain founder-owned and growth-oriented, with a collaborative and entrepreneurial culture. We specialize in multifamily, mixed-use, and adaptive reuse projects, and our team takes pride in transforming communities through thoughtful development. Our people are essential to our success. We offer a supportive work environment where hard work is recognized and career growth is encouraged. Learn more about our company here: https://www.youtube.com/embed/Hw6pR6OPo1w
