About The Position

Full-Time/Non-exempt/40 hours a week, Monday-Friday incorporation occasional evenings and weekends as needed. The Museum is an EOE. The Accounting Technician is responsible for performing routine and intermediate-level accounting functions including accounts payable, banking transactions, cash controls, reconciliations, and payroll processing support. This role supports the accuracy and integrity of financial records and operates within established accounting procedures and internal controls. This is a mid-level technical role. The position requires solid accounting fundamentals, consistency, and attention to detail, but does not require independent policy interpretation or advanced accounting judgment. This position reports to the Director of Finance.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of experience in an accounting clerk or accounting technician role
  • Experience with accounts payable, bank reconciliations, cash handling, and journal entries
  • Basic to intermediate Excel skills
  • Basic familiarity with enterprise accounting and payroll systems
  • Working knowledge of GAAP fundamentals
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nonprofit or public-sector accounting
  • Experience assisting with audits
  • Familiarity with remote deposit capture and enterprise banking systems

Responsibilities

  • Review invoices for accuracy, coding, and required approvals
  • Enter invoices into the accounting system
  • Prepare check runs, ACH, and wire payments under established procedures
  • Maintain vendor records and ensure W-9 compliance
  • Assist with annual 1099 preparation
  • Process deposits using remote deposit capture
  • Monitor daily bank activity and ensure transactions are recorded in the general ledger
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and assigned balance sheet reconciliations
  • Report discrepancies to Finance management
  • Perform daily cash drawer procedures
  • Reconcile petty cash
  • Prepare and process weekly deposits
  • Maintain required cash documentation
  • Prepare and post routine journal entries
  • Maintain supporting documentation
  • Follow established accounting and internal control procedures
  • Assist HR with biweekly payroll processing
  • Record payroll and benefit-related journal entries
  • Maintain orderly and complete financial records
  • Assist with audit preparation and documentation requests
  • Other duties as assigned
