About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. Description of Work The Office of Controller sets and interprets all accounting and financial reporting policies and procedures for the Department as authorized by the rules and regulations of the office of the State Controller and State statute; and executes all accounting transactions for DHHS. This position is in the DHHS Controller's Office – Accounts Receivable – Medicaid Branch. The position is responsible for: • Performing accounts receivable and reconciliation activities for Third Party Liability. • Establishing receivables, processing receipts, posting payments, and reconciling data for monthly financial close. • Creating, updating and maintaining Excel databases to assist in the automation of data and reports. • Tracking transactions processed through NCFS. • Completing high volume tasks independently, within set time frames, and in compliance with federal and state guidelines. Requirements

  • General knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and concepts.
  • Demonstrated experience with balancing and reconciling accounting transactions/records.
  • Ability to maintain accounting office records and reports.
  • Computer skills in mainframe systems and Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Associate’s degree in Accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in accounting; or High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience in accounting work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
