About The Position

As the Accounting Technician 2, you will provide financial management support as the Child Care Program Office Accounting Technician Supervisor. Duties include certification of accounting transactions, research and review of accounts and transactions, preparation of accounting reports, and ensuring compliance with Alaska statutes and regulations, Alaska Administrative Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, Child Care Assistance, Alaska Inclusive Child Care (Alaska IN!), and Child Care Grant Policies and Procedures. This position is located in Anchorage at the Child Care Program Office (CCPO) in the Frontier Building, 3601 C St, Suite 140. You will work with experienced staff who support CCPO's mission in an environment of mutual respect and trust, where staff are encouraged to participate in decisions affecting their work. The position offers the potential for a hybrid telework arrangement and/or an alternate work week after the probationary period.

Requirements

  • One year of entry technical level accounting or clerical bookkeeping experience.
  • Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience.
  • Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.

Nice To Haves

  • Principles of Accounting: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (for example, double entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.
  • Internal Controls: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques for establishing internal control activities (for example, authorizations, verifications, reconciliations), monitoring their use, and evaluating their performance (for example, identification of material weaknesses or significant deficiencies).
  • Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
  • Customer Service: Anticipates and meets the needs of both internal and external customers. Delivers high-quality products and services; is committed to continuous improvement.
  • Managing Performance: Takes responsibility for employees' performance by setting and communicating expectations and goals that are specific and measurable, tracking progress against the goals, supporting employees' efforts to achieve job goals (by providing resources, removing obstacles, acting as a buffer, etc.), ensuring feedback, and addressing performance problems and issues promptly.
