About The Position

New Valley is seeking a detail-oriented and motived Accounting Specialist I to join our Finance and Accounting team. This entry-level position is ideal for candidates who have completed accounting and finance coursework and are eager to apply their knowledge in a professional banking environment. The Accounting Specialist I will support daily accounting operations, prepare and review financial reports, and help maintain the accuracy of financial data. Qualified candidates must have strong analytical skills , as well as the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to support the bank's financial objectives.

Requirements

  • Completion of associate's degree or equivalent in accounting/finance required
  • 1+ years of accounting or banking experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong planning, organizational, administrative, problem-solving, and time management skills
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication, and computer skills
  • Ability to work with business partners with such as auditors, partner banks, insurance companies and benefit providers

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with posting daily general ledger activity
  • Monitor cash accounts with counterparties for balances and transaction activity
  • Maintain securities portfolio, including entering purchase and pledge information
  • Assist with accounts payable function, entering invoices, submitting payments, and performing vendor maintenance
  • Calculate monthly accrual amounts, including for annual staff bonuses, retail incentive bonuses, and professional services
  • Support month end and year end closing processes by gathering documentation, making closing general ledger entries, and performing monthly reconciliations
  • Monitor prepaid expenses for completion and renewal
  • Complete routine liquidity dashboards for monitoring and reporting
  • Assist with quarterly asset liability management, interest rate risk, and liquidity reporting
  • Track borrowing and brokered CD maturities to ensure timely repayment
  • Assist with Regulation O insider relationship reporting
  • Provide support during audits and regulatory examinations
  • Collaborate with other departments on financial questions and reporting needs
  • Other duties as assigned
