About The Position

As an Accounting Policy Intern, you will be an integral part of a collaborative, agile team. This position reports to the Accounting Policy Director and offers a hybrid schedule, allowing for both remote and on-site work from the home office in Topeka, Kansas, or fully remotely for the right candidate. Students eligible for this internship must be current, full-time students available to work at least 19 hours a week, starting as soon as possible. The intern is expected to work during and in between semesters, and up to full-time during the summer, as this is not a summer-only internship.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • A willingness to learn and develop industry-related knowledge
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in written form
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently with guidance
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Willingness to work and learn in multiple financial systems
  • A team player with a collaborative mindset
  • Current, full-time students available to work at least 19 hours a week, beginning as soon as possible
  • Expected to work during and in between semesters and up to full-time during the summer (not a summer only internship)

Responsibilities

  • Support research and analysis of emerging U.S. GAAP and Statutory accounting guidance (FASB, NAIC)
  • Assist with maintaining and enhancing regulatory tracking tools and summaries for internal stakeholders
  • Provide support on PBBD (Principles-Based Bond Definition) initiatives, including documentation of decision frameworks and onboarding considerations
  • Assist in drafting summaries and supporting materials for accounting policy memos and internal presentations
  • Help document and streamline Accounting Policy processes and procedures
  • Participate in cross-functional discussions (as appropriate) to gain exposure to investment accounting, financial reporting, and actuarial impacts
