About The Position

Homer Electric Association (HEA) is a member-owned electric utility serving the central and southern areas of the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska! We are excited to be seeking an Accounting Manager to join our team at our Homer, Alaska, location. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to: Supervise, lead, and develop accounting staff to ensure accurate, timely, and consistent accounting activities Manage accounting workflows, priorities, and resources to support month-end and year-end close processes Maintain a strong audit-ready control environment and support internal and external audits Provide technical accounting guidance on complex or non-routine matters and help ensure consistent application of accounting policies and standards Evaluate accounting treatment alternatives and recommend positions based on compliance, risk, and organizational impact Support financial system initiatives, including implementation, upgrades, testing, data validation, and process optimization Collaborate across departments to ensure accounting practices aligning with operational activity, financial reporting needs, and organizational objectives Advise leadership on accounting matters, reporting issues, controls, and financial systems improvement Support special projects and initiatives consistent with the scope of the position

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related business field is required; master's degree preferred
  • Five (5) years of professional accounting experience; electric utility accounting experience preferred
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation preferred
  • Proficiency with computerized accounting systems, spreadsheets, and standard business software
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments while providing clear guidance to staff and internal stakeholders
  • Valid Alaska driver's license, or ability to obtain one, and a good driving record consistent with Cooperative requirements

Nice To Haves

  • electric utility accounting experience preferred
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation preferred
