Position Definition: The Accounting Manager oversees and performs complex accounting for NCIRE funds, ensuring strong internal controls, accurate fund/grant accounting, and compliance with nonprofit reporting standards and federal funding requirements. This role also supports the Controller in the annual budget, financial reporting, audit preparation, and Indirect Cost Rate calculation and application Essential Functions: Ensure accurate compilation, analysis and reporting of accounting data Manage daily operations of general accounting functions Supervise accounting staff responsible for: Payroll and benefit project cost allocations Billing and accounts receivable processing Complex cost transfers and miscellaneous GL postings Review balance sheet accounts reconciliations and federal expenditure reconciliations Perform monthly closing processes, prepare financial reports and analysis Serve as the backup for payroll processing Update employees’ 403(b) contributions and complete quarterly retirement plan reconciliations Provide customer service to the research community and address inquiries related to accounting policies, procedures, and transactions Coordinate the Quarterly Expenditure Certificate process by distributing certification documents to Principal Investigators, tracking returns, and ensuring all forms are signed and submitted Interface with external auditors, providing schedules, analysis and system documentation as required Develop, implement and maintain accounting systems, procedures and policies Perform financial analysis and other related duties assigned, including researching issues, interpreting complex financial data, resolving discrepancies, identifying risks, and developing practical solutions
