About The Position

The Accounting Manager is a key leadership role responsible for elevating the Accounting & Financial operations of Impact Services. This individual will own the technical accounting of a nonprofit organization, lead the month-end close and support the audit readiness processes that enable the team to operate with excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including nonprofit accounting.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting.
  • Experience leading month-end close and audit processes.
  • Excellent communication skills clear, timely, and proactive.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify risks early and propose solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Month-End Close Own the full month-end close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency.
  • Understand and articulate the strategic vision for a disciplined, predictable close cycle.
  • Execute the timelines, checkpoints, and deliverables established by the month-end close calendar.
  • Identify bottlenecks, determine solutions and bring it to the attention of the CFO.
  • Ensure all reconciliations and journal entries are completed with precision.
  • Audit Readiness & Compliance Support annual audit preparation, ensuring all documentation is complete, accurate, and well-organized.
  • Build a year-round audit readiness framework, not a once-a-year scramble.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and grant requirements.
  • Anticipate auditor needs and proactively address potential issues.
  • Technical Nonprofit Accounting Manage accounting for restricted/unrestricted funds, grants, and program allocations.
  • Oversee the trial balance and understand transactions entered into the general ledger.
  • Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are complete and revenue/expenses accounts are accurate.
  • Systems, Processes & Documentation Lead or support system implementations/upgrades (e.g., accounting software, reporting tools).
  • Create and maintain clear, accessible process documentation.
  • Streamline workflows to reduce manual work and improve accuracy.
  • Build a consistent rhythm for updates, decision-making, and cross-team communication.
  • Leadership, Communication & Collaboration Model proactive communication especially when risks or delays emerge.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, clarity, and follow-through and learning.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure shared understanding of deadlines and dependencies.
  • Encourage diverse perspectives, active listening, and constructive problem-solving.
  • Coach and mentor team members, helping them grow in capability and confidence.
