ROLE SUMMARY: The Accounting Manager supports the VP of Finance in managing day-to-day accounting operations for the Stockyards Heritage Development portfolio, including its mixed-use commercial properties and hotels. This role provides accounting leadership during a period of growth and operational transformation, ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, strong internal controls, and GAAP compliance while maintaining system integrity and supporting audits, reconciliations, and budgeting. The ideal candidate brings a strong and robust understanding of GAAP, exceptional analytical capability, and a detail-oriented approach to deliver timely and reliable financial information that supports portfolio operations and strategic decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in real estate, retail, or hospitality.
  • Strong knowledge across accounting processes relating to AP/AR, revenue recognition, accruals, payroll, and intercompany transactions.
  • Advanced proficiency and experience working in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel, with a strong aptitude for streamlining workflows through automation.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to analyze and interpret financial data accurately.
  • Ability to critically review direct reports’ work and provide constructive, actionable feedback.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments while maintaining confidentiality and integrity.
  • CPA or CPA candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and development for two or more staff accountants.
  • Manage and review general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of internal and external financial reports for ownership, management company, and auditors.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and payroll processes.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and working capital analysis.
  • Conduct monthly balance sheet risk assessments and ensure all account balances are fully supported by appropriate documentation.
  • Assist with monthly flux and variance analyses, identifying trends and providing actionable insights.
  • Ensure compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), GAAP, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Monitor sales/use tax, licenses, permits, and regulatory filings to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

  • Support accounting staff as assigned, assisting with training, task guidance, and workflow coordination.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, automation, and efficiency within accounting and financial processes.
  • Promote open communication, recognize team contributions, and maintain an inclusive and collaborative work environment.
  • Provide practical financial information and support to leaders across the portfolio to inform decision-making.
