About The Position

The Accounting Manager provides strategic financial leadership and oversees district accounting operations, ensuring accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and effective execution of core accounting processes. This role is ideal for a proven people leader who can develop talent, drive operational excellence, and ensure accounting activities are completed in alignment with company policies, regulatory requirements, and business needs.

Requirements

  • 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership/supervisory experience managing an accounting function/team.
  • Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting; ability to mentor and develop staff.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
  • Effective verbal and written communication, including the ability to present financial information to leadership.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with a high attention to detail and deadline discipline.
  • ERP and reporting tool proficiency; Oracle preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
  • Construction or related industry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team by setting clear expectations and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and growth.
  • Delegate and coordinate activities effectively, motivating team members and supporting development of more junior staff through mentoring and guidance.
  • Oversee, monitor, and be accountable for key accounting functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and month-end/year-end close.
  • Ensure accounting/financial submissions and reports are completed accurately and on time; follow up on issues, problems, and discrepancies.
  • Produce timely, accurate financial reporting and provide insights that support leadership decision-making, including ad hoc reporting and analysis as needed.
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and performance drivers, and provide forward-looking analysis to help the district anticipate issues and capitalize on opportunities.
  • Lead planning and forecasting cycles, ensuring alignment with district and corporate goals.
  • Manage the district financial cycle and working capital in accordance with company policies, recommending improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and oversee audits (internal/external as applicable), compliance activities, and required regulatory documentation.
  • Oversee to ensure required documentation (e.g., insurance, bonding, SDI, workers compensation, statutory declarations, lien waivers) is in place and renewed accordingly.
  • Drive accounting system and process improvements to enhance accuracy, scalability, and operational efficiency, including monitoring and improving accounting procedures.
