JOB SUMMARY The Accounting Manager oversees the daily operations of the accounting department and ensures the accurate and timely preparation of financial information. This role is responsible for managing accounting processes, financial reporting, and internal controls while supporting the Director of Finance, Chief Financial Officer and leadership team with reliable financial data used to guide business decisions. The Accounting Manager supervises accounting staff and works in a high-volume, fast-paced environment to ensure efficient and compliant financial operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Certification as a Public Accountant or Management Accountant
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge and application of GAAP
  • 3 - 5 years of progressive accounting experience
  • 1 - 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience in an accounting environment
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Maintains a good driving record

Responsibilities

  • Manages the daily activities of the accounting department and ensures the accurate and timely preparation of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal monthly financial statements, annual audits, and annual budgets
  • Oversees disbursement activities, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, employee expense reports, cash controls, payroll processing, and payroll tax compliance
  • Manages accounts receivable activities to ensure the accurate and timely handling of billing, cash receipts application, and aging management
  • Compiles monthly financial statements, department-level financial statements, and prepares monthly journal entries
  • Reviews monthly financial activity to ensure accuracy and proper financial reporting
  • Assists departments with financial information related to business operations and performance
  • Maintains strong working knowledge of the company’s ERP system and supports financial system processes
  • Coordinates annual audits and works with external auditors to provide required documentation and information
  • Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies and ensures compliance with applicable financial reporting requirements
  • Reviews payroll activity and oversees compliance related to payroll reporting and W-2 processing
  • Manages financial reporting related to payroll items and associated compliance requirements
  • Administers the HRIS system in partnership with the Human Resources team
  • Assists with compliance items involving 401(k), property tax reporting, nondiscrimination testing, and other annual reporting requirements
  • Oversees the processing of vendor credits and ensures proper allocation to the general ledger
  • Supports the Director of Finance and CFO with financial reporting, analysis, and special projects as assigned
  • Participates in special projects and prepares a variety of financial and operational reports
  • Maintains and supports internal control procedures to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance
  • Communicates with co-workers, management, clients, and others in a courteous and professional manner
  • Conforms to and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Hires, trains, and develops employees within the accounting department
  • Supervises accounting staff and manages departmental workload, assignments, and priorities
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
