JOB SUMMARY: The Accounting Manager oversees the accounting department, managing daily operations, staff, internal controls and financial reporting. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Takes responsibility for the accuracy of general ledger, including recording or reviewing all journal entries, ensuring account reconciliations are prepared timely and reviewing results for anomalies. Manages accounting team responsible for payroll, accounts payable, project accounting and cash receipts. Leads and develops team, including mentoring and coaching. Maintains robust internal controls and policies and procedures for accounting transactions. Ensures compliance with GAAP and federal regulations. Evaluates business processes for effectiveness and efficiency. Serves as primary contact with the external accounting firm responsible for the annual audit. Provides information necessary to complete the annual 990 filing. Prepares monthly financial reports for leadership and financial analysis for department leaders. Responsible for ad hoc reporting needs. Assists with the preparation of the annual budget. Tracks and monitors progress on annual team goals and projects. Prioritizes requests and can communicate the status of projects regularly. Assists in developing annual goals. Provides support to the Finance Director as needed.
