Position Overview Responsible for day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department, ensuring compliance with fiscal policies and procedures and maintaining a strong internal control environment to enhance the transparency and relevancy of financial reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Business Management or related field and 10+ years of accounting, finance, and/or business is required. An equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered.
  • Two years of supervisory experience required.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in nonprofit accounting is required.
  • Proficiency with enterprise resource planning systems, HRIS/payroll systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively with team members.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytic skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with NetSuite preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage accounting operations to ensure timely and accurate general ledger and records
  • Analyze financial statements and other performance indicators to identify strengths and weaknesses, presenting statements to a committee for monthly review
  • Plan and execute department strategies that ensure the Company’s financial success
  • Coordinate and collaborate with contract bookkeeping organization on monthly activity and close processes
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage the annual financial audit and Form 990 tax filing
  • Maintain Fixed Assets and depreciation schedules and documentation
  • Create annual Form 1099 documents for distribution to vendors
  • Manage the annual budget process in collaboration with the Director of Finance & Administration and the Director of Operations & Engineering
  • Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures relevant to work performed in the department
  • Provide recommendations for financial management, operational efficiency, productivity and quality of the department
  • Maintain and manage contract bookkeeping relationships
  • Maintain banking and auditor relationships
  • Manage relevant accounting systems
  • Manage multi-state business registrations and maintain compliance by state
  • Work closely with project managers and other staff, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures, but also to explore how the finance function can support program operations
  • Research and examine new opportunities, technologies and solutions that will improve and/or enhance current accounting systems
  • Manage the accounting department budget
  • Act as backup for payroll process
  • Provide support for annual reporting functions such as workers compensation audit
  • Collaborate with Human Resources staff on process improvements between accounting and HR
