About The Position

The Accounting Manager oversees all core accounting functions and ensures accurate, timely financial reporting. This role manages payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger activity, and monthly/annual close processes. The position also leads a team of accounting staff, maintains compliance with GAAP, and supports continuous improvement of financial systems and procedures.

  • In lieu of degree: 15+ years of experience in an Accounting/Payroll Manager role
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory capacity
  • Familiarity with accounting software preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills
  • Advanced Excel and Word proficiency
  • Ability to multitask and work proactively

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting functions including payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, journal entries, and monthly/annual close
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to support current and future operational needs
  • Ensure financial reporting tools and processes are functioning effectively
  • Review and approve monthly close entries including cost allocations, depreciation, accruals, and indirect entries
  • Approve and post journal entries prepared by accounting staff
  • Manage timekeeping systems, evaluate processes, implement improvements, and support timekeepers
  • Oversee payroll processing to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance; serve as backup to Payroll Coordinator
  • Handle wage garnishment processing when required
  • Create and maintain financial reports and queries to support internal needs and ensure data integrity
  • Prepare payroll journal entries and reconcile payroll data with third‑party provider reports
  • Stay current on payroll regulations and compliance requirements
  • Ensure GAAP‑compliant financial reporting and maintain accurate financial records
  • Provide financial insights to leadership to support decision‑making
  • Hire, train, and retain accounting staff
  • Provide coaching and professional development to team members
  • Drive continuous improvement of accounting systems and processes
  • Promote strong teamwork and customer service across the department
