About The Position

McAnany, Van Cleave & Phillips, P.A. (MVP Law) is looking for an Accounting Manager to join our Kansas City, MO office to help us meet the needs of our growing practice. We are looking for curious, intelligent, and creative individuals to join our firm and be part of our fast-paced and rewarding environment as we continue to redefine the law firm experience and forge our own path to the meet the needs of our clients and employees, as we have been doing since 1901. This position assesses company-wide needs to drive strategic financial initiatives and identifies and implements suitable solutions for the firm.

Requirements

  • Well organized and excellent attention to detail
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Excellent management skills
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Working understanding of statistical concepts and methods of data collection
  • Ability to compile, research, and analyze information
  • Ability to compose and present comprehensive reports
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks, and related software
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a combination of degree and relevant accounting experience
  • 2-5 years of supervisory/management experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in working with a modified cash basis firm/organization preferred
  • Proven accounting experience, law firm experience preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting needs of the firm
  • Prepare financial statements and reports for the firm and health and welfare benefit program
  • Reconcile accounts and prepare journal entries
  • Coordinates with outside accountants to ensure the accuracy of firm accounts
  • Complete month end and year end close processes
  • Prepare, complete, and file all firm 1096 and 1099 forms
  • Review all firm tax documentation for accuracy and file by state and federal deadlines
  • Participate in audit preparation, document production, and final review for internal and external firm and client audits
  • Oversee and provide direction for all accounting projects
  • Research, document, advise, and train on technical accounting and tax topics
  • Supervise accounts receivables and act as backup
  • Supervise accounts payables for both the Firm and clients and act as backup
  • Guide reconciliation and research of, and correct discrepancies for vendor’s statements
  • Maintain client trust accounts
  • Manage and file state use tax
  • File state business registrations
  • Manage Attorney licensing and membership dues renewals
  • Ad hoc reporting, including general accounting and census reports
  • General support as needed for the COO
  • Act as a mentor for the growth and development of the accounting team
  • Other duties, as assigned
